Indian?? who ?? me ??

After being in a lighter mood lately and the resultant ‘gay talk’ of my previous post, last three weeks have been quite somber and demure for me. The causative agents for this are principally two: 1. My (disastrous) end-semesters and 2. My penchant for keeping myself well-informed of the world around.

I don’t consider discussing the first thing (as it will only multiply my sorrows..and not solve a problem). But the second topic deserves a mention at least on this measly nook of the web space.

A major chunk of my time, from the last 3 weeks, was engulfed by a black-hole called exam preparations ! However this doesn’t mean that I delved myself completely into the abysmal depths of textbooks. I exploited the broadband connection of my college to the maximum and downloaded stuffs and spammed more professors and wandered desultorily on youtube and finally watched (and read) news on my favorite news channel website.

But somehow, watching news was a bit disconcerting and disgruntling during this period. It felt as if with each passing day, my feeling of patriotism was fading away. As my end-semesters were approaching closer, my love for the motherland was drifting away. The happenings happening around me were all responsible for that.

Instance 1

A Russian tourist is raped in Goa. The rapist is a fucking politician. He has no regrets for his deed. The victim is threatened by the assailant afterwards. He is seen laughing on national television as if he has won a gold medal for India in Olympics ! About a month later, an ‘honorable’ Member of Parliament blames the girl for getting her modesty desecrated, giving enough evidence that he has the potential to become the next gold medalist for India..all he needs is just a state-sponsored visit to the Bondi beach ! It is a massive misery for us that out of over a billion people, we find such disgusting beings to be called our leaders. I hope someday the daughter of this very MP shall become a gold medal for a foreign nation !

Instance 2

A new kid called ‘Telangana’ is on his way ! The painful pregnancy of our motherland is the result of a yet another occasion of poor (family) planning by our demagogues. The labour pains have started in the form of riots and anarchy in one of our biggest and developed cities, i.e., Hyderabad. The date of delivery is not known as yet, but what is known to everyone is that all education boards will soon have to edit their geography textbooks for a good-for-nothing cause. Forget the petty politics involved, what is really disheartening is that most of the concerned people are perceiving this stupid and unimportant event as a matter of extreme importance. They are filled with a ‘passion’ that they never show for the country. The rest, who have a straightforward opinion – “Who cares ??”, are a minority and have no say. What I can foresee is the evolution of a new neighboring-states rivalry with more fights for distribution of power, water and other resources, joining the ever-growing bandwagon of ‘Dismantle India’ brigade. This brigade already has onboard terrorism, poverty, population, corruption, naxalism and of course our leaders !

I believe I screwed up my DOM paper because when I was supposed to be preparing for it, I was wondering about the mental state of the moron that composed a song/phrase (whatever) that goes like – “Anekta mein ekta, hai Hind ki visheshta” !!

Instance 3

Kasab is a better actor than SRK. He has made a mockery of the goddamn Indian judicial system. I bet he’ll end up acting in a few Bollywood movies before NOT dying, but getting free after a Kandahar-2 !! This insane terrorist has enjoyed one whole year in an Indian prison, which is a far better place than his Pakistan home ! At least he gets food here (and that too twice a day..something he must have dreamt of all his life) and secondly, he has no fear of a US drone firing a missile into his ass. What makes me almost cry is the fucking importance he is getting in our country. For all human rights activists, he is the most humane person on earth. Our government and judiciary, who are always looking to prove something or other to the world, don’t want to miss this opportunity to prove that India is the most justice-loving country in the world. Maybe they have a bigger plan of making India a global justice outsourcing hub !!

I can only ask this question – How long did it take for the US to hang Saddam Hussein?? Nobody knows clearly what actually transpired in the court, where he was tried. The version that US gave was accepted or rejected the world over. But ultimately, Saddam was hanged and nobody could stop that. At that moment, US never thought of proving anything to the world. Bush wanted to hang him and he did, even as we know that no weapon of mass destruction was actually found in Iraq.

Instance 4

A top IPS officer of Haryana molested a 14-year old girl in 1990. The girl could not bear the trauma and committed suicide three years later. The animal responsible for this has been convicted now, 19 years after the incident. Firstly, I believe in the saying – ‘Justice delayed is justice denied’. So this conviction is just as rubbish as shit. Secondly, the monster got a hilarious punishment. He got SIX MONTHS in jail. Now this is the beauty of Indian judiciary. You wait for fucking 19 years to put someone in jail for 6 months ! Even Mr. Liberhan would be feeling insecure after this !

Now just read this statement : “A former Director General of Police in Haryana, India molested a teen driving her to end her life. He escaped almost scot free with SIX MONTHS in jail after NINETEEN YEARS of trial.” If a foreigner reads out this statement and asks me about my nationality, I am definitely sure my reply WON'T be “INDIA”.

  1. vineet.. could sense your frustration dat most sensible indians feel.
in the russian rape case, that very member of parliament made a statement on some news channel the following night that tourists should avoid going out after 10pm and should take extra precautions... how would such a statement affect the mindsets of tourists who are the prime revenue generators of goa..
kasab should have been shot dead is my point of view.. in a country with states like bihar and up where poverty is like weeds, spread everywhere, already rs 31 crore has been spent on keeping a terrorist alive...
a judiciary system which judges on the laws made 80-90 years back, what can you expect??
there are a lot more issues which needs to be resolved and i think collective effort can help in doing so!!

  2. Firstly, a truly observant post. That strives to encapsulates all that there is, that the author is confused, befuddled, frustrated, charged about into a single strand and single story flow with a single outcome to all. Which in this case is "I am so psyched about being an Indian"

I have, on a personal level, a bit of an issue with some specific and general parts of this post . In instance 1 - "I hope someday the daughter of this very MP shall become a gold medal for a foreign nation !"
I don't even would need to explain what my exact problem with that sentence is.

Instance 3 - "I can only ask this question – How long did it take for the US to hang Saddam Hussein?? Nobody knows clearly what actually transpired in the court, where he was tried. The version that US gave was accepted or rejected the world over. But ultimately, Saddam was hanged and nobody could stop that. At that moment, US never thought of proving anything to the world. Bush wanted to hang him and he did, even as we know that no weapon of mass destruction was actually found in Iraq."

Dude, what is our true value as an human? our rights, right? The law is delayed, yes it is. But t=does that mean that the amount of punitive action that we strolling in has to augment at the cost of it? I mean, how will snuffing out Kasab at drop of a hat mean of any good to anyone around aside from satisfying the revenge seeking anger driven a couple few, who will again just be as much frustrated because they will again, for sure, be anticipating one more kasab. The idea of justice isn't to 'eliminate' an 'anti social entity' but nurture it back to health, back to being social! I ofcourse can only make point clear over a tete-e-tete but this is what it looks at the onset. As for you Sadaam thing. It's the most unconstitutional thing to , as you said, just go ahead and kill him without anyone knowing what happend in the courts. If you support it it, then even you would know that you support it for the audacity of an imperialistic madman with his own share of stakes in the proceedings, and personal one at that. My only plea to you, get more informed on the issue before forming an opinion up for yourself.

The instances 2 and 4 by far are the most deftly stated and can stand the side of argument.

lastly do read http://www.indianexpress.com/news/by-the-time-ias-ips-are-recruited-they-have-formed-their-prejudices...-new-idea-is-to-take-them-train-them-after-class-xii/482394/ and be more equipped with how a law system of a nation is governed.

As for your 'lost patriotism' part. Well, to begin with, patriotism in itself is a stupid concept of believing that my country is the best because i was born here. When we begin seeing the whole community as a single organism, such ideas begin to seem balderash.

Moreover, if we hate something/someone/someplace for 'a reason' then that means that we ourselves are so intolerant and incapable of loving 'unconditionally"

"I will accept my college only if it were an IIT"

"I can marry only, if he is a software engg, based in US, 6' 2"(and all other matrimonial ads) "

" I can belong to my nation 'only if' it has no turmoils, no more lexical precisions in law, no more slow killing of terrerist...no more dust, no more garbage, no more poppulation, less traffic, better this ....better that...."

If this 'only if' stays...then baby, we ourselves are the most incapacitated beings...asking, demanding, seeking...constantly for something to go right....so that 'we' can boast of being in a better place.

    Think about it.

  3. nice points put up by Nijeesh bhaiya but sorry I still agree with Vineet...

I just don't see any point in wasting crores for one terrorist.. don't you think that many more citizens in this country can be provided food & other facilities with d same amount??? This has always been a problem with our country.. BEING TOO MUCH GANDHIAN, BEING TOO MUCH IDEALISTIC... can't we just talk simple??
Cops caught Kasab... he told us what he knew..
we know he's guilty.. so whats d harm in hanging him right now?? Its very easy for one to say that it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL..blah blah blah..
but ask d family of the officer whom he killed.. life becomes hell when family is not complete...
in fact if I would have been given d charge of Kasab... I wud have given him a death worse than what Saddam got.. Saddam was hanged in one go... I would have done something like depriving him of food until he dies.. something which whole world wud fear.. it may sound a very WILD idea to you... bt Hello Sir!!! thats how this world goes..respect is not given to d one who has POWER instead to d one who USES POWER..

secondly, do u want another IC-814 kinda incident?? Trust me another plane will be hijacked, another release of a terrorist.. n he will go on to start another Terrorist organisation n they will kill thousands more..

Lastly, he's no GOD.. who d hell r we waiting for?? Whats so unconstitutional about Kasab being hanged.. If d constitution of a country can't give justice to a citizen, then I think its better to be UNCONSTITUTIONAL.. Lets take USA. Just see the way they care about their people. If someone even thinks to harm their country or citizens anyhow, they just make life hell for them. It might seem UNCONSTITUTIONAL to you, but at least their citizens are safe. At least they are assured that d bus or local train in which you will b going to office or d shop u are going into will not blast off.

    Lastly,
" If this 'only if' stays...then baby, we ourselves are the most incapacitated beings...asking, demanding, seeking...constantly for something to go right....so that 'we' can boast of being in a better place. "
    -(nijeesh bhaiya)

Don't you think this ONLY IF is d thing which is responsible for a country's development? something which encourages you again n again to make your country a better place..Yes I am asking, demanding, seeking... constantly for something to go right.. Whats d big deal with it??? Do you ever wish something to go wrong with your country??? Yes I want to boast about 'we' being in a better place. Its very simple.. I barely have 60-70 years of lifespan. I want to spend it in d best possible way, in d best possible place & environment. Whatever you say.. Human Development Index(HDI) rankings indicate that we are living some (140+)th ranked life in this world. Sorry for being selfish, but I can't spend whole life this way. Why shud nt I live a better life if I deserve it...

Finally, I would just say that...sorry for being rude, but this country is totally messed up. It needs hell lot of changes. You many think that I am obsessed with finding faults in our country... But bhaiya, I am not against INDIA.. I am against d present INDIAN IDEOLOGY... even I wish my place to b one of d bests n I am playing my part for it too.. Sirji, even I love my country UNCONDITIONALLY!!!! I am as much Indian as you are.. its just that I can't accept d way this country is managed...

Anyways, no offence to anyone. I think its better to act & work hard for India's development than to discuss it in blogs. I just wish INDIA becomes d best place on this planet. And yes by wishing so, I AM BEING SELFISH!!!!!!! ;)

  4. A very nice post Vineet, and equally good comments Nijeesh and Tarun. As the case is with me always i seem to be agreeing with all three of you and at the same time disagreeing too. All of you have some points correctly put and some very as per your own opinion. This whole post has gone more to the kasab issue, but i would to comment on the whole. As Indians, we are very proud people. Proud for no reason at all. We know we dont have very good facilites. We know that the corruption is rampant all around. We know in India each and everything comes with a price tag. But let a foreigner say this too us, and we will definately want to blow him up, Namaste London style. Vineet may be saying that he is ashamed to be an Indian. But let someone really put him this question. I feel the reply would come out opposite to this post. All of us have a lot of discontent in our hearts about a lot of things, but what do we do about it except writing about it or discussing about it. How many times did we rise up against anything? How many times have you been a part of a rally or something that happens to show discontent? And if you did, what happened after that? If you talk about dirty politics happening all around you, no matter what you do or what you don't you are still a part of the same dirtiness. Unless you do something to change. finally nothing is perfect, it has to be made perfect. And this perfection dosen't happen in a moment but takes a lot of time to show. If the change has to happen it will happen very gradually. So slow that you may feel everything has just been the same. So just keep doing good and give it some time to show up.
